Discovering Louis Vuitton Fondation

28 June 2015 - Louis Vuitton Fondation

Discovering Louis Vuitton Fondation

While you’re staying a few days at the Bon Hotel, we recommend that you discover the many attractions of the Louis Vuitton Foundation, which opened nearby in 2014. Located in the heart of the 16th arrondissement of Paris, between the Bois de Boulogne and the Jardin d’Acclimatation, the building is a contemporary masterpiece designed by the renowned Frank Gehry, perhaps the most important architect of our times.

The sails of a flagship of contemporary culture

Integrated into its beautiful green environment, the building is a compendium of innovations highlighting the latest technologies in service to the vitality of contemporary architecture. Playing with light and crafted in steel and glass that seem to billow like a ship’s sails, it reveals different faces to suit the day and the season. Through its transparency games, this emblematic place offers the perfect backdrop for exhibitions of contemporary works.

A place where the art scene and the general public meet

Founded in 2006 under the chairmanship of Bernard Arnault, the mission of the Louis Vuitton Foundation is the support and promotion of contemporary artistic creation. Thus, it acts as a forum for communication between the exhibited artists and the visitors. Young people have not been forgotten, either; dedicated activities and workshops are held each weekend. The programming is organised around two distinct aspects; the presentation of a part of the world-famous Louis Vuitton Foundation collection, alongside temporary exhibitions devoted to a theme or an essential artist of our time, as was the case with the Danish artist Olafur Eliasson.

Reaching the Louis Vuitton Foundation from the Bon Hotel

By car, it takes about ten minutes to reach the Louis Vuitton Foundation from our location. It’s a great opportunity to rent one of the Autolib' electric vehicles. This car sharing scheme has a station conveniently located at the entrance of the Foundation. However, remember that the Foundation is also within easy walking distance. It’s a delightful stroll that will give you the chance to admire the unique architectural heritage of the capital. After about twenty minutes the remarkable work of Frank Gehry will arise before your eyes. Finally, if you prefer to go by public transport, there’s a Metro station just steps from the Bon Hotel. At the Pont de Neuilly station you simply take Line 1 in the direction of Château de Vincennes, and hop off at Les Sablons station.

This marvellous temple of creation is well worth a visit, both to discover a jewel of contemporary architecture, and to admire the cutting edge works of the leading artists on the international cultural scene.
